Being Spent for God
The story of David’s mighty men captured my attentions..i pondered on them for days and it has kept me awake this evening. David was thirsty and in battle..his men found out he was thirsty so they risked their lives to cross enemy lines to get David some water. When they return to camp all excited about giving David a drink David. It touches David deeply but he in turn offers it to the Lord as a sacrificial offering and dumps it out on the ground..you say what a waste. Wow the place must have erupted in silence. Folks were amazed by what David had just done. These men risked their lives to get that water even bloodshed to get this water…and David just pours it out..
Remember the setting David is alone in a cave…about 400 misfits come to gather around him and they become David’s might men.. Men who poured out their lives serving their King. They were happy to serve.
Now if some of us today would have done the same service to David would we not be upset that we worked so hard to get this water and he just poured it out…Then i began to ponder such things like… if i die to myself dead man has no rights…if i die to myself then it doesnt matter what efforts i do for Jesus its all a matter of service. The bible says if you want to be the greatest be the least…hmmmmm thats not the way it works in this day and age. If you want to be great you have to be great…not in God’s Kingdom…if you want to be great be the least. Why the least…well cause the least gets the greatest reward in heaven..The greatest have already recieve their reward here on earth the recognition and praise of men. Wait a minute…the church has just used me up…and spit me out…that has hurt me and i am mad about it…thats the idea..you are a drink offering unto Jesus poured out for His purposes. So many of us get upset that we are not being exalted to the level we expect or our gifts are not recognized like we want them to be…buy rejoice cause your reward will be great in heaven…What if you are poured out like a drink offering unto Jesus will it offend you? most of the time it does…Lord help us to be your servants and not become bitter when we are used by the Lord to serve realizing that being used by God is the highest praise anyone could ever ask for or desire.
There are so many that God just used up…John the Baptist…was beheaded for serving God….not much of a reward for serving doing the right thing paving the way for Jesus..there are many who serve in sunday schools, prayer teams, cleaning the church, and many many things behind the scenes. There are web designers, video production, CD ministries, music ministries, people who spent countless hours doing the church books, paying the bills…all are being spent for Jesus…will these acts go unnoticed…they won’t your Father in Heaven sees every act spent on His behalf and will reward those with a awesome heavenly reward…
Are you being spent for Jesus or are you bitter that you feel the church has used you up and spit you out..i would say its all a perspective change. Its all in the way the person embaces the least of these will be the greatest…whoever wants to be the greatest must be the servant of all. Nows thats a life spent for His Glory that will be rewarded.
I have pondered this and mulled it over and over. Countless thousands will come before the throne and say Lord did we not cast out demons in your name, did we not heal the sick, did we not prophesy in your name and He will say depart from me i never knew you….however those who served behind the scenes God will recognize and bring them into the eternal kingdom prepared for those who love Jesus…dont loose heart..realize these troubles are just momentary…There is a greater purpose for being spent or poured out like a drink offering

Very passionate. I think we have a lot to learn about service. I do, however, believe that focusing on an abstract reward in heaven detaches us from the love that God wants us to experience. I think the reward is the love that each and every person desires to have, but cannot obtain except by following Jesus. I think that there is duty, and then there is love. A Jesus follower needs both. We do have a right to be loved, and that’s what Jesus offers us if we serve Him. “Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend.” John 15:13

I so agree i think the real joy starts when we die to ourselves and live for Him. Now that’s joy my brother. When we can serve and wait for God. Lay our lives down for each other so many times we wait then we demand our own way and become bitter because we do not get it…Our right to be loved is that God loves us regardless. Thanks so much for the comment
